We stayed at Casa Fontanelle for 2 wonderful weeks in June. It was perfect for our group of 7 adults and 4 kids (ages 6 months to 4.5 years). First of all, Graham was extremely helpful in helping us book our flights, rental cars and train tickets - he even went above and beyond by helping us book flights from Rome to Romania and train tickets in Italy following the villa stay.

He is also very responsive to questions and very accommodating (i.e. making sure the house was stocked with a baby monitor and some extra groceries for the kids). The house itself is beautiful and had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. The kids spent hours in the heated pool which is surrounded by a beautifully landscaped yard lush with lavender and other pleasant smelling plants. Fields of vibrant sunflowers surround the villa and came into full bloom during our stay.

We enjoyed the location of the villa, which is a few km from Spina (a quaint little town with an excellent pizzeria and a tiny but very nice winery -- go see Moreno at Cantina la Spina!) and a few more kms away from a larger village of Marschiano (Be Happy Cafe is an excellent gourmet restaurant there).

The immediate area isn't very touristy and we enjoyed that!

However, many day trips are just an hour or so away. During our stay, we visited Todi, Assisi, Lago Trasimeno, Montefalco, and the Marmore waterfalls. The neighbour, Laura, cooked dinner for us 4 times. Every multi-course meal was absolutely delicious and we had leftovers for lunch and dinner the next day. The local managers, Tony and Karen, were very nice and helpful as well. Wonderful stay! We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!

Stunning Umbrian farmhouse with six double bedrooms and four bathrooms. Superb infinity pool set in sizeable gardens with olive trees, cypress trees and laurel bushes. ideal location for exploring Umbria or even going to Tuscany to see Florence or south to visit Rome. Whilst it is not within walking distance to any local village, it is only a 5-minute drive into Spina to purchase provisions. A well-stocked kitchen means that it is just as easy to cook (or bbq) as it is to go to eat out.

A host of wonderful Italian restaurants or family-run pizzerias are only a short drive away. The sunsets and early morning sunrises over misty valleys more than makes up for the feeling of remoteness in the farmhouse although privacy is one of the reasons we returned here; to experience the 'big sky' country of Italy.

What a magical place! Everything from the small details in the bedrooms to the pool in the garden with the fantastic views in every direction creates a harmony that is hard to find anywhere else. The barbecue evening with the local butcher from the neighboring village was incredible and is highly recommended. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to create memories for a lifetime in your house!

Casa fontanelle is surely not only a nice place to stay, away from noise and tourist masses – it becomes the home for your stay within the first hours after your arrival. You instantly feel welcome and get an impression what the hosts had in mind when they created this homely hide-away in the midst of Umbria. All rooms come with their special atmosphere, from the lounge with a portrait picture of Curt Cobain and his guitar on the wall, the spacious kitchen and dining area where it all happens in the evening hours chatting and cooking along tasting the good wine the house holds in stock for the guests. Plenty of space in all bedrooms, two of them with attached bathrooms, all of them individual and wonderfully relaxed. The top feature outside is the great pool with lots of space for chilling or enjoying a nice sundowner together. Surrounded by plenty of green you feel a bit like the owner of a chateau while you are here. Upstairs a loggia gives you some extra space for dinning outside in a larger group or in case the sun might not shine all day. Only some kilometers away a devoted butcher offers great value for reasonable money and even comes to casa fontanelle if you want to experience his expertise in BBQing. Within some 10min drives there are several good wine makers, give it another 20min and you’ll discover the Sagrantino, a wine and story of its own. The owners, Rosanna and Roger, were always reachable via email or messenger – a wonderful thing as they know their way around in the area and are more than willing to assist you with great recommendations or any help you might need. And that’s something you seldom encounter these days, we thought. True hosts, if you want to phrase it that way. We were a company of four parents and eight teenagers from Munich, Bavaria, Germany. Again, casa fontanelle comes with plenty of occasions and room to meet and spend time together, but also plenty of space to enjoy on your own. The perfect mix!”

What a unique experience! Surrounded by amazing scenery, quiet farmlands and cosy local villages Casa Fontanelle is a true getaway. The villa itself was of a very high quality, everything was clean and updated. Three different areas to sit down and enjoy food created a new experience every evening. There were 8 of us in total and it felt like we each had our own area of the house, which made the stay extremely comfortable. During our stay we had a caterer called Steffy who we recommend very highly, one evening she even stayed the whole evening for a true Italian dine in experience.

In the countryside of Umbria, surrounded by fields with olive trees and sunflowers Casa Fontanelle turns up like an oasis. With its six bedrooms and four bathrooms this tastefully renovated house was perfect for me, my husband, and our daughters with families, in total 6 adults and 4 children aged 8-13 years. The big country kitchen is well equipped for preparing and enjoying good dinners at the rustic kitchen table. Outside the kitchen there is plenty of space for having breakfast in the shadow or dinner at sunset. In Marsciano, about 15 minutes by car, there are many grocery stores and another half an hour away you will find Perugia. It is a charming old city on top of a hill which you reach by four long escalators from the foot of the hill! There you will find many nice restaurants and shops. The little village Deruta with lots of ceramic stores is also worth a visit. Close to Casa Fontanelle you will find a lot of vineyards both in Umbria and Tuscany – we visited several! One evening Stefy from the village nearby, prepared and delivered plenty of food for us, enough for many meals! Between excursions the lovely pool was a given gathering place with lots of seating and umbrellas for both sun and shade. We three generations thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Casa Fontanelle and the friendly treatment by the owners Roger and Rosanna.

The villa is located in beautiful Umbrian countryside approximately 40 minutes from Perugia airport. Several medieval hilltop towns are within easy driving distance.

However, my family and friends spent a lot of time in the large pool and garden as the weather was very hot during our early August stay. Many pool toys are supplied from balls and lilos to water guns for added fun!

Graham, the owner, was extremely helpful during the booking process from arranging flights to recommending local restaurants, places of interest and supermarkets etc. We would also recommend Laura's homemade meals delivered to the villa! In summary- a holiday we will all have happy memories of for a long time.

We were a family group of 3 generations, and we went to Casa Fontanelle to celebrate a big birthday. The holiday surpassed our expectations. The villa is spacious and comfortable with plenty of room in the garden to run around. The 360° views of the surrounding countryside are really beautiful. The children loved the pool, our four-year-old swum around like a fish, and despite it being early April. the adults swam nearly every day.

Between us we explored Todi, Assisi, and Bevagna; and the architects in the family went to Gubbio to see (amongst other things) the modernist cemetery there. Some in the party took advantage of the bicycles, discovering local villages, and we also did some walks around the neighbourhood. There are so many places to visit we ran out of time.

A neighbour cooked us a lovely meal and we alternated going out to local restaurants with cooking for ourselves in the well equipped kitchen.
