Umbrian Wine & Culinary Retreat: Exploring Italy's Heartland

Day 1

The SAS flight departs from Arlanda at 06:35. We arrive at Fiumicino Airport in Rome at 9:45 with SAS. Here, the transfer bus meets us and we drive up to Casa Fontanelle in Umbria. We settle into our rooms, perhaps take a dip in the pool before being served a classic Salumi Misti in the garden. Dinner is served by our Italian chef Stefy at 8:00 PM.

Day 2

Breakfast 7:30 - 9:00. At 9:45, the transfer bus takes us to Montefalco, home to Umbria's most important grape, Sagrantino. We visit the Scacciadiavoli winery, dating back to 1886, and explore the estate's wine cellar – tasting 7 different wines paired with local delicacies. Then we visit the second winery of the day at Arnaldo Caprai, where we sample Sagrantino Vibes. Return journey to Casa Fontanelle. A few hours to rest or hang around the pool. In the evening, we have booked a table at Maca Muta in the picturesque village of Compignano, where we enjoy a wonderful tasting menu of Umbrian local cuisine.

Day 3

Breakfast 8:00 – 9:30. At 10:00, the bus picks us up and we head to Cantina Lungarotti. The Lungarotti winery was founded in the early 1960s by Giorgio Lungarotti in Umbria. The production consists of both white wines dominated by Trebbiano and red wines dominated by Sangiovese. Lungarotti is considered one of the top producers not only in Umbria but in all of Italy. When we return to Casa Fontanelle, Stefy has prepared a cooking class for us. We will make pasta from scratch and prepare our own dinner, which we then enjoy together.

Day 4

Breakfast 8:00 – 9:30. At 10:30, the transfer bus departs for Cantina Monte Vibiano, a short 10-minute journey. Here, we have a tour of the vineyards and olive groves on either electric bikes or golf carts. We taste both the white and red wines of the estate, as well as olive oil, and take a tour of the cellar. We end with a lovely lunch. The afternoon is spent at Casa Fontanelle, soaking up the sun and taking a dip in the pool while enjoying the view of the hills. In the evening, we are visited by Andrea from Carneria Spina who grills a fantastic dinner for us! A Menù Classico Umbra – a grill menu beyond the ordinary!

Day 5

Breakfast 7:00 – 8:30. At 9:00, it's time to leave Casa Fontanelle for this time. But the journey doesn't quite end yet. In Rome, our Swedish guide Kristina meets us for a city tour around Rome's magnificent city. The guided tour ends around 2 PM and there is time for lunch before taking the Leonardo Express to Fiumicino for the return flight with SAS to Stockholm at 8:10 PM. Price 19,500 SEK. Round trip flight, all meals, drinks, and wine tastings are included during the stay at Casa Fontanelle. Guided city tour (Swedish guide) in Rome is also included in the price.
